Many terrific comedies have descended since the '80s and Vacation (1983) starring Chevy Chase is no exception. Read this review for a refresher!
As stated, Chevy Chase is the main star and the man. He makes every scene hilarious. His physical comedy is top-notch. I particularly enjoyed watching him wandering through the desert.
Also, anytime Chase noticed "the girl in the Ferrari" is funny. We never get the character's name (actress name is Christie Brinkly). However, her driving the sports car is iconic in film history. You may have seen this parodied in various cartoons and movies.
The family cast is great as well. Beverly D'Angelo is Ellen who attempts to keep Chevy Chase grounded. A running gag that happens in every sequel is that the kid actors change. They are pretty good in this movie though.
Other moments I find comical include all moments with Cousin Eddie, the pool scene, stealing the hotel money and much more. Plus, the song "Holiday Road" from this film is catchy. However, the best scene is the last scene.
They make it to Wally World, but there's an issue... Shenanigans ensue with John Candy which results in several near arrests.
Overall, it's an awesome comedy that ranks among the best. Give it a watch if it's been a while! My movie rating is an A.
