"Frozen II": Blows Us Away~Better than First???

Disney animation sequels do not have the greatest track record, but Frozen 2 (2019) breaks the streak. This time there's a quality story that furthers the development of the characters, and it's enjoyable!

Elsa continues to wonder where her magical powers came from when a mysterious voice calls to her. With the kingdom in trouble, the group sets out to the enchanted forest...

This sequel takes place 6 years later, and the original film came out 6 years earlier. Frozen 2 progresses along with the age of the viewer. Examples include a more mature story, older characters and more.

Much like its predecessor, this movie has fantastic music. #1 is "Into the Unknown" (song at end). I think it's just as good as "Let it Go" if not better. It's the perfect title song. Alright, I'll just say it. I think it is better than "Let it Go". You can write me hate mail if you want. In a technical music sense, it's much better, and I think it carries crowd appeal too. The use of the siren call really tied it up for me. Others include "Show Yourself" (song at end) and "Lost in the Woods" (song at end). That last number felt like a cheesy '80s/'90s romance song, and it is great.

I think all of the main characters are exceptional in an interesting story. It's not the first time we've heard of the four elemental spirits, but they use this well. The forest imagery is dazzling, and the colors used are a perfect blend. Something simple like the fire's color was meticulously chosen.

Elsa (Idina Menzel) continues to show growth in her powers. Anna (Kristen Bell) and Kristoff's (Jonathan Groff) relationship continues to blossom. Then, we have Olaf (Josh Gad).

Olaf was a character I tolerated in the first film, but I really enjoyed his character this go-round. He is maturing (much like the viewer growing up). He has some alluring comments including "water has a memory" which turns out to be crucial. Also, they slide in some non-political social commentary which I find hilarious. It's "Advancing technology is both our savior and our doom." Think about it.

*SPOILER ALERT* Continuing with Olaf, maybe the saddest moment comes from him. He starts to flurry away, and he realizes what's happening. Instead of thinking about himself, he tells Anna to save the forest and Elsa. He has a heart of gold.

Unlike the first film, there is no major plothole. Read the first review to see what I mean here.

I think Frozen 2 is better than the first! I've taken my stance on the debate, so now it's up to you... My film rating is A.
