"Frozen": Broke the Ice~Succesful Disney Entity

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

For a few years, Frozen (2013) held the title of the highest-grossing animated feature at $1.281 billion! That was only beaten by its own sequel, so what makes this Disney franchise so desirable? Skate on and see... Spoilers may follow.

I remember witnessing this phenomenon as kids took their parents to the theater multiple times then there are all of the young adult Disney fans too. I'll admit I jumped on this train very late as in 7 years late. I understand why it became a cultural influence on kids.

The message behind the film is wholesome. The point is to not hold back, and be yourself. It also teaches that you don't need to accomplish everything by yourself. For example, Anna is courageous by going off alone to find Elsa, but it's reckless too. She needed help, so that's where Kristoff came into the fold. It teaches us that we need to trust others even though we can be hurt sometimes.

Voice work is very important in animated films. I think all the choices were exceptional starting with Idina Menzel as Elsa. Menzel was already an accomplished singer, and bringing her talents catapulted the main song to the top. We all know I'm talking about "Let it Go". More songs I enjoyed from this movie include "For the First Time in Forever", "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" and "Frozen Heart".

Next, there's Kristen Bell as Anna who is always talented. The voice actor for Kristoff is Jonathan Groff. If you've ever seen Mindhunter on Netflix, he's the lead there. You might say that the show is a little different from Disney's Frozen.

We remember Disney films for being a treat for the eyes, and this is no exception. The picture embraces the snowy landscapes by using shading and espousing blue colors with the ice.

Unfortunately, there is a big problem with the story. Hans secretly being a villain would be okay if these two items didn't happen already. First, he looks lovingly at Anna after their first meeting even though he's alone. An evil villain would do anything else (laugh wickedly or something). Second, he stopped the henchman from shooting Elsa even though he wanted her to die. Why? That would have solved his problem. A plot hole is only one when the act doesn't make sense for the character.

Overall, I enjoyed the film. It was worth it, and I shouldn't have waited so long to view it. My movie rating is B-.
