"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy"~Stay Classy
Updated: Mar 9, 2020
Anchorman (2004) is a movie that I quote routinely in my life. This film is one of the best comedies we have this century. I don't personally know anyone who has seen it and doesn't like it. Each and every scene has something funny, so here is the review!
Will Ferrell has produced some of our lifetime's best comedies, and his portrayal of Ron Burgundy is no exception. No one else could have done this role as he did. He is exceptional with many hilarious lines including "By the beard of Zeus", "My apartment smells of rich mahogany", "Baxter you know I don't speak Spanish" and more!
The other news team members include Brick (Steve Carell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Champ (David Koechner). Two hilarious moments/lines with Brick include the lamp scene where he says "Ilike lamp" and screams "loud noises". Also, I constantly quote where they ask Brick if they are lost, and he says "Okay! Alright! Fantastic!"
I don't think you can truly appreciate how that moment has impacted my life. I'm sure people I know are sick of hearing it from me. Paul Rudd's character has the weird colognes, and Champ has a strange need to be near Burgundy. He says in a quick and awkward tone "We should get an apartment together when this is all done." I've been told (by Logan Drake) that it is an underrated line, and I have to agree.
Of course, they all bounce off each other extremely well too. They sporadically burst into singing Afternoon Delight then move on as nothing happened. However, the coup de grâce is the news channel fight. Vince Vaughn's news team is sick of being number two and challenges them in the back alley area. Other news teams join the fight with guest actors including Ben Stiller and Brian Wilson. It's an awesome scene that I like to rewatch all the time.
Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) is a capable female lead. She gives a funny performance that contributes a lot to the story.
A woman newscaster is stepping on Burgundy's turf, and he is trying to stop that.
One of my favorite scenes includes Baxter the dog and Jack Black. Ron Burgundy knocks him off his bike accidentally, so he literally punts Baxter off the bridge. This leads to Ron missing his news hour, and it goes downhill from there.
There is a lot more I could do here, but you should really just watch the film and see it all again. It may very well be my favorite comedy ever made. My movie rating is A+.
