WALL-E (2008) is still talked about for a reason. Pixar managed to give the two main characters a wide range of emotions with minimal talking, so that's impressive. Read here how it's done! Spoilers may follow.
To get the point across, the creators overdue the imagery. The mountains of trash tower over skyscrapers showing what potential neglect could produce. I've personally participated in Adopt-a-Mile, and it's a little disheartening. So much trash is tossed from cars including alcohol bottles that are beer AND liquor.
WALL-E is "adorable" to quote some people. He does his job and collects his nic-nacs. He gets frightened easily but is too curious to run away. When he sees EVE, he's smitten. When you're a robot whose friends powered down years ago, seeing her is quite a sight. EVE has a real character arc. She starts out as *directive only* then starts to experience what life was like for humans and currently WALL-E.
An interesting aspect of the film involves what I just mentioned. *Directive* It's clear that the robots are sentient. WALL-E collects stuff, and he watches movies. Essentially, the robots' central directive is their highest priority, but it's possible for them to differ as we see.
Just like how Pixar overdues the imagery involving trash, they do the same for the humans in space. They all stay on hoverchairs constantly watching something. The metaphor is pertinent to today. It's no secret everyone is glued to their phones (young and old! don't act like it doesn't span multiple age ranges). Also, it's no secret that we are getting larger. Staying healthy and getting outside is important!
If you look at the date of this article, it's been during COVID-19 quarantine. It's had a couple of interesting upsides including neighborhoods looking like neighborhoods again. People are out walking, working on the yard/garden, and saying "hello" to each other.
Overall, it's an enjoyable film experience. They somehow make a cockroach cute (the Metamorphasis book would be a nightmare), so it's got to have a favorable rating based on that alone. My film rating is an A.
