TV to Watch~ "Dexter" *Spoiler Free*

This article isn't an in-depth study but an overview on why you should consider watching:

Dexter (2006-2013)

Eight Seasons

Made by Showtime

Watch on Netflix

Drake brothers Austin and Brady both recently finished this show, and we decided to write an article for this series of <TV to Watch>. Dexter is a deserving program that should get more viewers for numerous reasons. Read below to see is this is for you! No major spoilers.

For one, this show put Showtime on the map. You may know the network today for presentations such as Shameless, Ray Donovan, and Billions, but before them there was Dexter. The network wouldn't be what it is today without it. While I haven't seen many of this network's productions, I'm confident Dexter is one of the best if not the best. Usually, for premium network content, you need to have the network streaming service. This time you could use good ole Netflix!

We all know Americans are fascinated with serial killers. Anything from ID Investigate to Netflix's Mindhuner has millions of fans, but Dexter is the OG favorite.

➡️ STORY: A young boy of three named Dexter witnesses his mother be brutally murdered by cartel members and is never quite the same. Many years later he's a blood-splatter analyst for Miami Metro during the day, but at night... he's a serial killer.

➡️ CHARACTERS: Dexter is portrayed by Michael C. Hall, and he should be on the legendary TV performances list. He landed 5 Emmy nominations along with 4 Golden Globe nominations and 1 GG win. He can switch personalities back and forth for the jekyll and hyde act. It's fascinating to see. He's a character who lacks empathy, but he must act normal to stay hidden.

The more important aspect of the character is his reasons or the "code" he follows for his killings. Dexter only offs other murderers. His victims aren't random innocents but dastardly killers themselves. It's very interesting. Of course, every decent cast member has character progression, so how do you do so with an emotionless serial killer? Does he gain compassion? Does he gain empathy? Does he gain the ability to love? All is answered if you watch it!

Also, the side characters make this show exceptional. Even if Dexter wasn't part of the show Dexter, it would still be an adequate cop show. Many of them are legitimately engaging. First of these is Debra Morgan illustrated by actress Jennifer Carpenter. She easily deserved a nomination but never received one. She had to have the largest emotional range of any character. She's up there with some of the best crying performances.

Here's a list of more quality actors and actresses: David Zayas and Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, C.S. Lee as Vince Masuka, Luna Lauren Velez as Maria LaGuerta, Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn, Julie Bentz as Rita Bennett, John Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell and Colin Hanks as Travis Mitchell. That's just to name a few. I think Batista is personally my third favorite as far as cop mainstays. For Antagonists, Lithgow is fantastic as his own serial killer. He won the Golden Globe and Emmy for his performance in season four.

➡️ THEMES: A major theme is what's acceptable and moral in today's society. How far will people go to get what they want and maintain their honor? Not just Dexter the serial killer wrestles with this but many people. Another crucial theme is TRUST. Obviously, lots and lots of lying takes place in this show. Others include responsibility and love.

There are a plethora of other great things about the show, but this article would be way too long. I'll at least mention the setting of Miami is enjoyable.

My only real complaint is the series ending which I can't divulge. The show is still fully worth the time though. If this all seems interesting, go check it out!
