"The Spongebob Squarepants Movie": Childhood Favorite

Updated: Apr 5, 2020

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (2004) is a childhood classic that we all loved growing up. I am not ashamed to say I watched this movie very recently, and it still holds up today! Read here why it is so memorable! Spoilers may follow.

One of the best things about this movie is how many times we quote this. Lines like "I changed my underwear", "You don't need a license to drive a sandwich", and "May I have your attention? I have to use the bathroom" are said all the time. A friend of mine probably says that third one every other day at least. The plot is simple. Something gets stolen, the wrong guy blamed, his friends have to fix the issue. Except this movie is incredibly funny.

As far as children's movies go, this is one of the highest up there for being relatable and memorable. I am almost 22 now, and people still talk about and watch this movie. Nearly every scene is fun to watch with something you really enjoy. Even parents have some jokes that are really meant for them. Spongebob and Patrick got wasted at the goofy goober place on ice cream. That's not for the children.

David Hasselhoff, a villain named Dennis and more proves how funny this movie can be. There are a lot more jokes to talk about, but it would make this article a 15-minute read. It is a movie that young adults fondly remember and appreciate their childhood. We have grown up and had responsibilities, but a movie like this lets us remember simpler times.

Of course, there are some issues. Any film based on a TV show is bound to have something that doesn't make sense. How I look at this one is how I saw it as a kid. If I thought it was a movie problem as a ten-year-old, I'll include that. With that being said, first is King Neptune. He is completely different from his first appearance in the show. Also, The Krusty Krab 2 is completely retconned. It's never even mentioned again.

A couple of mistakes like that would usually hurt a movie's rating, However, this film more than makes up for it in other ways. My movie rating is an A.
