"Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas"~An Under Appreciated Adventure Story
Updated: Mar 28, 2020
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) is a Dreamworks film I watched growing up and loved. This movie is underappreciated and forgotten by too many people. Since this is sandwiched in between the popular Shrek and Shrek 2, this cinema piece is oft left behind. Read here why it needs to be watched again!
Sinbad, voiced by Brad Pitt, is a good choice. He is satisfactory at voice work and probably should do more in his future. His character is interesting. He befriends the prince at a young age, but he can't bring himself to an honest life. He boards a ship and eventually becomes a pirate. Also, the crew is entertaining.
Firstmate Kale, voiced by Dennis Haysbert (Allstate guy), and Rat, voiced by Adriano Giannini, are the best ones and have some character. They provide enough banter to keep it interesting. The moral of the story is simple enough in that the protagonist (Sinbad) has to make a choice between doing good for others or living a selfish life. This is where Marina voiced by Catherine Zeta-Jones' character challenges him throughout the movie. The Goddess Eris is an excellent antagonist giving the heroes more than enough to handle.
The monster fights are entertaining, great 2D visuals, sound, music and more helps propel this movie. It's entertaining. What more do you need from a cartoon film?
It isn't the best kids movie ever made, but it needs to be viewed more than it has been. My movie rating is B+.
