When I think of all-time great animated movies of this century, Shrek (2001) is near the top of that list. There are many reasons that'll be explained below! Read here to see if you agree with me. Also, spoilers will follow so if you haven't seen this yet then something's wrong.
Mike Myers is the voice of Shrek forever and ever. If they ever try to remake this (which of course they will at some point *insert mad sarcasm*), I will still hear his strong Scottish impression. Apparently, they recorded almost every scene, but Myers convinced them to redo it all because he discovered this new impression. I'm glad he did.
The same goes for Eddie Murphy as the voice of Donkey. He is legendary in this role. Epic lines from him include "Tonight, I'm making waffles!", "I bet you've never seen a donkey fly!", "That is a nice boulder." and more.
Also, Cameron Diaz is great as Princess Fiona. She would be hard to replace as well.
The music in the film is awesome too. This movie led a generation of people to the song All-Star by Smashmouth. I know all the words because of Shrek. I'm a Believer is sung at the end that people love too.
Many scenes are iconic in this cinema masterpiece. Some include Robin Hood beat up in the forest, the dragon castle scene, discovering Dulock (the song), and much more. Specifically, the interrogation of Gingy is hilarious like "Not the gumdrop buttons!"
I love the pace and feel of the movie. All of the fairy tale creatures give a lot of source material. It's really hard to pick my favorite parts of this movie without writing a 20-minute article because every scene is great. Withthat being said, I can't think of something that should be changed in this film.
Overall, it's awesome. I think that sums it up appropriately, and I think you can guess my score. My movie rating is A.
