"Nobody": Breaking Bad Star Highlights This Action Film from John Wick Writer

Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul makes his Liam Neeson-Esque action debut in his late 50s with Nobody. With minimal spoilers, read this, and see if this movie is for you.

STORY: A former assassin has turned into a pliant family man living a routine-filled life. It all changes when a home invasion leads to a fight with a Russian mob.

If you're a fan of the John Wick series, you'll enjoy this too. There are many similar tones and story decisions that are related. It would seem like copying, but it involves the same writer with Derek Kolstad.

Due to this, the obvious question is are they in the same universe? Marvel successfully created one. DC... tried. Universal... also tried with monster movies. Outside of traditional sequels, trilogies, and the like, it is tricky to do this. Kolstad answered this question with a "no". He made it as a stand-alone film. This doesn't mean it can't connect at some point, but it won't for now.

Bob Odenkirk got in his best shape since he was a young man to play Hutch Mansell. Coincidently, the role may have saved his life. He had a heart attack last year but made a quick recovery due to being in good shape. He also had a lot of fun in this role. He can pull off being a fighter. He goes from looking like anyone's dad to a certified fighter. The unimposing look helps him get the jump on criminals.

You can see how much he is holding back the instinct to fight back. Finally, he breaks. The bus fight scene is epic and shows him getting back in the swing (get it?) of things. He stops some hooligans from harassing a woman, and it's great. Hutch sees it as God giving him a chance to prove himself and make up for past misdeeds.

Even if you don't watch the movie, watch this scene! I'd put it up agaisnt some of modern days best fight scenes. It doesn't need CGI superheroes to make it great.

Ever wanted to see Christopher Lloyd in this kind of action movie. Here's your chance. Doc Brown proves that being elderly won't stop you from taking down bad guys.

THEME: You could say this film is a dramatized showing of a midlife crisis. Hutch wanted to prove he still has the skills that made him legendary and lethal.

If you don't like that theme, it's still an action-filled movie that is better than your basic 2000s Jason Statham flick. I think it's worth a watch! Also, the stray siamese kitten is adorable in the movie.

My film rating is an A-.
