HALLMARK Film "Christmas Under the Stars": Bucks the Normal Trend
Updated: Mar 15, 2020
My mother is a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies, and I sometimes watch too. Christmas Under the Stars (2019) is just some generic name. However, this film is not generic. Read here why!
A financial bigwig named Nick gets canned from his job and stumbles upon a tree lot. He gets offered a job while meeting Julie who is a teacher going through unjust debt collection.
To start with differences, Nick (Jesse Metcalfe) is the main character as a male lead. Normally, Hallmark spends more time on the female lead (Autumn Reeser) but not in this occurrence. Next, it takes place in a big city versus a small town. That's one of the biggest draws to these movies is that small-town life is the best. I think this movie helps show that you can have morals, family, and a small-town feel within a really big place.
Another interesting difference is that Nick sticks with finance. In many films, the guy or girl sees this industry as terrible and must leave it immediately.Instead, he goes to work for a more ethical financial firm that will help out people with outstanding unfair debt.
The Christmas tree farm is a satisfactory location for much of the film and Clem (Clark Peters) gives a heartwarming performance. He has endured heavy losses and is increasing in age, but he continues to try to help people.
Overall, it's a solid film. My movie rating is A-.
