*What a classic* I've watched this movie on Christmas Eve for years, and it's one of my favorite traditions. A Christmas Story (1983) will always be one of December's most-watched films, and here's why.
Every scene I watch is memorable. I find myself saying "well maybe that's my favorite scene throughout". There's the Red Ryder BB Gun dream sequence, Little Orphan Annie Decoder, the father fighting the furnace, the now infamous leg lamp, getting a tongue stuck on a pole, the pink nightmare, and so much more. In particular, Ralphie's encounter with the store Santa is hilarious. The decision for the camera to spin around from Ralphie's point of view while Santa belts "Ho! Ho! Ho!" will always make me laugh.

Peter Billingsly's performance as Ralphie will be watched every year and is his golden role... for now! Who knows? He may have some exceptional performance later on, but it will be hard to top this one. Remember the head elf from Elf or the main Stark Industries scientist from the original Iron Man? That's Peter Billingsly!
I still believe A Christmas Story would be a great Christmas movie anyway, but The Old Man makes it a classic. Darren McGavin was born for this role according to director Bob Clark, and I agree. His gibberish rantings are some of the funniest things I've ever heard.
What's the most iconic scene? While it's debatable, I think it's the "Oh fudge" scene. It's classic. The father has him hold the bolts while changing the tire, and he knocks it over. We see the camera pan in slow motion for the moment of "Oh fudge". It's perfect.
