TV theme openings have become a lost art for the majority of modern shows even though we are in the golden age of television. In this article, we will see which emerges from the pact! Combine memorable music and engaging imagery to be one of the best. Here's 3 of them...
Game of Thrones-HBO
*Show Synopsis*: 9 noble families fight for control of Westeros as a long-dormant enemy begins to awaken.
This extremely popular show is such for more than just great writing, acting, and design. This opening is perhaps the best of today when you include song and animation combined. The cities rise from the ground with all kinds of little details. Spinning motions are what I've noticed the most which add some fine flare.
It ends with the now-famous logo featuring the four original main families emblems in front of burning fire. It's fantastic imagery. Raman Djawadi brought the music to life which is already considered an iconic TV score. This theme is the most popular, and it's the best of modern-day.
The Pacific-HBO
*Show Synopsis*: This miniseries features the brutal pacific theater of WWII through the eyes of several marines.
First and foremost, The Pacific original score is extraordinary and easily my favorite song of the three themes here. I performed it with The Marching Southerners (JSU) sophomore year of college, and it was my favorite ballad I ever performed. Just hearing it again while I've been rewatching the miniseries brings out some emotions in me.
The visuals are excellent too. We see varying acting shots of our characters among the rages of war. Also, we continuously see graphite drawing on paper which ends up being drawings of the battles that transform into real footage. It's perfectly combined with the sensational score from combo Hans Zimmer, Blake Neely, and Geoff Zanelli.
