"2 Fast 2 Furious": It's a Racing Movie

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) is the second (obviously) movie in the franchise. One of the only returning characters from the first is Paul Walker, so it definitely has a different tune. Is it better than the first? Read here to see! This is an interesting experience for me going through each one in order, and I'll continue.

Paul Walker is great again as the protagonist Brian O'Conner. This time we find him in Miami, Florida after he is disgraced and let go of the LAPD. However, he can't drive fast enough from his past, and he is pulled right back.

Again, Paul Walker does a fine job, but I want to look at Agent Bilkins (Thom Barry). He has some character change but not in a bad way. His tough and mean personality is replaced by another cop, and he is more relaxed. Although I don't usually like a character flip flop like this, he's actually better this go-round. Also, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce is an asset to the universe. He plays the role well as the eccentric character, and Eva Mendes is good too as Monica Fuentes.

As far as the story goes, it's straight forward. They are recruited to help bring down a drug lord. It's been done a lot, and there isn't anything particularly special about this script. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean it's bad. Again like I said of the first movie, there is lots of fast cars and racing. The editing is quality again. You need to have that for this kind of film. All of the racing is great again too.

Ya, there are some things that can be different. It's a bit campier than the first movie, so that might be a good or bad thing depending on you. This is evident in the title 2 Fast 2 Furious. I mean, come on. For me, it not as well told as the first movie.

Overall, it's a decent movie. I'm eager to make it the critically acclaimed installments in this franchise. My movie rating is C+.
