Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is a very different take on the web-swinging hero than we have seen on screen before. While I am partial to the likes of Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire as my favorite, I still wanted to see the new take for the MCU. Read here below what I thought, and spoilers may follow.

This new Spider-Man movie is Peter Parker as a teenager in high school. He is adjusting to his somewhat new powers, and Tony Stark comes to help him along. He must battle new villains and the pressures of school.

There are plenty of quality things about this movie. My favorite aspect is Michael Keaton as the Vulture. He brings a great dynamic to the character as sinister yet caring. He does the crime because he thinks it is owed to him for being looked down upon.

Also, Tom Holland is a nice choice for Spider-Man. He plays the character perfectly for how it is written. I was not sure how he would play out, but I was pleasantly surprised. He will have a long future in the art of cinema. Other valuable parts include his friend, Jacob Batalon as Ned, as the comic relief character. He has a similar comedic style to a friend of mine (you know who you are). Another is directing. Jon Watts does an adequate job bringing to life the swinging friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

I do have a couple of issues with the movie. The character Michelle played by Zendaya is the kind of person I would loathe if I met them in real life. She is needlessly political and just poorly written. The actress can be good, but I cannot get over that awful personality in this movie. Rant over. To be fair, she is exponentially better in Spider-Man: Far From Home. My other issue is dialogue. I am not a huge fan of how this Spider-Man is written among other characters as well. Since Tom Holland is so good, I give it some leeway plus, again, it's so much better in the sequel. Also, who actually believes that Flash could pass off as a bully?
