As the countdown continues to Avengers: Endgame, we will continue reviewing each and every movie that has been building up to this point. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 (2017) is an interesting film. While it doesn't live up to the first one's accomplishments, it is still a rousing watch. Read here, and see my rating! The guardians are doing their normal business but need saving. This comes in the form of a being that can create some form of life. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) finds out this being is his own father and wants to get to know him. However, he may not like everything he sees.
There are plenty of quality parts to this film. Number one, Chris Pratt is Peter Quill (Star-Lord). He is the perfect casting choice, and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Along with him, all of the guardians provide their great chemistry and humor to create a fun atmosphere. I never knew I would really enjoy hearing Bradley Cooper voice a talking space raccoon. I can't complain about the CGI as is with most MCU films. Other good parts include cinematography and the music. Much like the first movie, the soundtrack is great and filled with many hits.
This movie does have a few problems. By far my least favorite part is baby Groot. It plain frustrates me. He is so annoying. It was fine when only an after credit scene, but the whole movie is dumb. In actuality, it was a marketing ploy to sell more merchandise, and that is not a stretch to say. Also, the plot lacks the same punch as the first movie. Star-Lord's dad is interesting since he is basically a planet. If most of the movie was not centered in this one place where not much happens, I would have ranked it higher.
