In case you need a reminder, Harry has been home all summer with correspondence from his friends. He is sad and depressed then he receives an unexpected visit from Dobby the house-elf. Dobby warns Harry not to return, for bad things are going to happen at Hogwarts...
Dobby is a subtly important and dynamic character. He is a slave that breaks his master's' wishes by even talking to Harry. He knows that torture and death are possible for doing this act. This is part of a small section from the book where Hermione is trying to liberate all the house-elves. However, Dobby is a better focus than Winky (in the book).
Per usual, our three main actors and actress continue to grow and thrive in a lifetime role. We get to see more of Richard Harris' Dumbledore along with the introduction of Mr. Weasley (Mark Williams). Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs). Specifically, I want to mention Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart. He is extraordinary in the role of a charismatic celebrity. Originally, Hugh Grant was offered the role. As great as his performance would have been, Branagh has me convinced he was the right guy for the role. Also, Mrs. Weasley (Julie Walters) makes me laugh like no one else in the series.
This film has its share of memorable moments. First is the flying car. We all have thought about something like that before, so it's cool to see it in action. Another scene is the spiders. The Dark Forest harbors many terrors including giant spiders. That's enough to make anyone freak out. Also, anytime Harry hears the Basilisk about to attack gave me the creeps as a kid.
The story is jam-packed in this movie. We learn more about Tom Riddle or more commonly known as Voldemort. Then, we have the purebloods versus mudbloods storyline among other things. Director Chris Columbus does a fine job juggling everything.
