Rudy (1993) is an excellent football movie about the true story of Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger. This man had a dream of playing for Notre Dame, and everyone said he'd never make this a reality. This film depicts that accomplishment. Read here for the review, and spoilers may follow.
First, I am a Sean Astin fan. Obviously, Samwise from Lord of the Rings is his best to date. He should be an Oscar winner from the third installment, but that's a whole other thing you can ask me about. He is great in Rudy. This performance is best described as hopeful. Everyone called him too short and not fast enough even though he was easily the best player on his high school team. Another barrier to entry was his grades. Rudy needed to drastically improve them before he could go to somewhere like Notre Dame. This movie does it better than most on seeing his struggle to accomplish this feat. He fails more than once, and it's nice to see him not give up.
I don't want to say too much and give some moments away. My bet is that many people who read this have not seen the film before, so I'll keep this one shorter. Another part of the story that's interesting is his father doesn't believe in him. Growing up in today's society as a young person, you're expected to attempt college first then something else (for better or for worse). This movie takes place in the '70s, so times are a little different. For Rudy, it wasn't a question. He was going.
The personality of Rudy in the film is great itself. He naturally has people become his cheerleaders, and that's what he needed to get his shot. Wait till you see the ending. Are there some things that could be different? Sure. However, I can't think of a necessary one at the moment of writing this article.
Overall, it's a quality feel-good movie. Maybe you need a pick me up a couple of hours, and this may be the cinema piece for you. My movie rating is B+.
