"Groundhog Day": A film You'll Want to Repeat

To celebrate Groundhog Day, I am reviewing... Groundhog Day (1993). I know it is very original of me to do so (insert sarcasm here). Sorry, but I can't help but think like Bill Murray while writing this. Be prepared, and spoilers may follow.

This is an incredibly funny movie. Bill Murray plays a weather reporter televising the Groundhog Day festival in Punxsutawney. He loathes this assignment and wants to leave as soon as possible. Somehow, he wakes up and keeps repeating the same day over and over and over and over... well you get the point.

Many things are great about this comedy. Murray as the lead is excellent alongside co-star Andie MacDowell. Their romance parts of the movie are equally as good and compelling. Harold Ramis did a fine job directing the movie. Nothing seems wrong or out of place while watching.

Another great part for me was the writing. Every joke fell directly into place just like it should, even the morbid ones. There is the section where he becomes extremely depressed and starts just letting himself be killed. They handle this darker section gracefully and come out better than before. I admire how they handled it. My favorite scene is probably where he kidnaps Punxsutawney Phil and is on a police chase. I love everything about that part.

I don't really have any glaring issues in the movie. I guess he could have tried leaving the city as soon as he woke up. Other than that, I am fine with the picture choices.

Overall, this is a movie I highly recommend. It is very funny, romantic and even a bit of drama thrown in there. It is one of my favorite Bill Murray performances. My movie rating is an A.
