"Clue": Cult Movie Hit of the Classic Board Game

Updated: Feb 4, 2021

Clue (1985) was shown to me many years ago by a friend of mine. I fully understand why it is a cult hit. This movie came out during a few strong years in Hollywood. You may recognize other names from 85' such as Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club or The Goonies. Needless to say, Clue still persisted in many fan's minds to be watched today. Read here why, and no I won't say "whodunnit". You may want to see for yourself after this article.

This board game turned movie has been parodied many times in modern television including the likes of Family Guy. The cult status and having Tim Curry headline the film as the butler are some reasons why. Curry is the best performer in the movie. He keeps you wanting to see his next scene. He's not an actor you think of all the time, but it is always good thoughts when you do.

Another actor famously portrays Doc in Back to the Future in the same year. Christopher Lloyd is Professor Plum. All of the other characters are from the game too and of course, the artifacts or potential murder weapons make appearances as well.

The setting is what truly makes the film. A dark night at an old mansion is just what I desired to see. Pair that with murder and mystery, and you've got a movie. Don't be fooled, this is definitely a mystery COMEDY. I mean this in the best possible way. One of the funniest scenes occurs when a cop shows up to the mansion.

The guests can't tell him about the murders because their secrets will get exposed (plot point) if they do. They stage a makeout party essentially with any corpses to trick him, and it works splendidly. The comedy is dry and witty throughout. It's more about the lines than anything, and I really enjoy it all.

What I want to ask some critics is this. What more do you expect from this kind of film? If you include this in the video games category, it's easily the best one made so far. It's clever and pleasing to the eye.

Overall, this film has high rewatchability which I value. You should see this for yourself. My movie rating is an A-.
