"Aladdin": A Treasure of a Film

Updated: May 17, 2020

***Ideas from Drake Bros Brady and Logan

This will forever be one of my favorite animated movies. I love it, and I want everyone to know! *Read here*

The #1 reason this film rules is the inspired casting of Robin Williams as the Genie. No one on planet Earth can do it quite like him. Will Smith gave it a good try in the remake, but it's not the same. A plethora of moments makes him the king. Some are when he sings "Friend Like Me", transforms Abu into the different animals, and basically everything. I keep trying to narrow it down, but there's just too much amazing material. Apparently, Robin Williams ad-libbed so much the script was ineligible for awards. Hey, you can't stop that kind of talent.

The #2 reason this film rules is it contains perhaps my favorite Disney princess. Depending on the day you ask me, Jasmine is the front-runner. She's determined to make her way by being a friend to all and defying expectations.

The #3 reason is all of the sensational music. They're all great including "A Whole New World", "Friend Like Me", "Prince Ali", "Arabian Nights", and "One Jump Ahead". The first won the Oscar along with the film's score.

We can't leave out the other characters too! Aladdin himself is great along with Abu. The monkey is adorable especially when he's mimicking Jasmine in the dungeon. I'd like to own an Abu plush or a magic carpet real rug. Also, the magic carpet manages to have some personality despite being...well a rug. Jafar and Iago are also terrific. I don't know how Gilbert Gottfried was chosen for the parrot, but I don't care. It's awesome.

Jasmine and Aladdin are the same person. Their personalities are intertwined. They both gave food to needy kids, and they both feel trapped. The trapped theme continues with the Genie as well.

Overall, it's truly exceptional. I've seen this many many times and have no plans of discontinuing. My film rating is A+.
